Preparation & Progress

We start our day early morning to had our breakfast before we start our work. We brought our stuff and water bottles to our studio to work. Firstly we rinse and clean up all the water bottles. We had our short discussion to separate the work task. There were few of them marking the water bottles to get the correct measurements before passing to another members to drill a hole. Then some of us cut the water bottle according the opening. While other of the members wipe the water inside the bottle before spraying colour onto the water bottles. We spend few hours on the task as we need to prepare at least 60 water bottles and of course we did few extra just in case.

It was very satisfying to see the outcome of the beautiful and colourful water bottles. During the process I get to learn how to work among big group of team members and having positive energy to keep us moving. After we had done spraying, we went for late lunch while waiting for the water bottles to dry.

After we came back from lunch we had our short discussion on how we could arrange according to colour and tie them up. As usual we were separate into our own task, as I was cutting the rope all according to size and others were measuring the distance of bottles before trying them. Even though it look simple but we spend a lot of time correcting the length and tying to make it firm so it will hold the weight of the plants. I even made mistake on trying incorrectly, luckily my other team members point out before I proceed. During the process, all of us were helping each other even though we had our own task to complete. Finally we completed our work by 8pm.

After we had tie the water bottles then we arranged it all on the floor according to the colour we plan out so we can pack it separately and to avoid string tangle together. It was a tiring day as we spend whole day preparing all the water bottles. We were so excited for the day to set up all.

Site Visit & Buying materials

After we finalize our slide presentation, few of our group members accompany by our lecturer went to Kompleks Penyayang Bakti to present our idea on doing the plastic bottle plants and outdoor furniture. It was approved by the person in-charge as they love the idea on having more plants around the gazebo. Moreover our members also went there to measure the site and took some pictures. They also went to visit cafeteria area where another group were in charge of painting and decorating the place. Below are the pictures of our group members meeting the person in-charge and site visit.

After our members came back from the site, we had our group outing to hunt for materials we need to buy to do our work. At the meantime, we always go around to collect recycle 1.5L plastic bottle as we need at least 60 plastic bottles for our plants but we end up collecting more than 100 plastic bottles!

On Friday we gather in University in the morning before we head out to our destination. First of all we went to the hardware shop to get few materials like rope, spray paint, nails etc.. Then we head off to buy plants and flower nearby. Of course we bargain the best price we could get before deciding to buy. Then we went to buy some cement and soil to put on the stone brick for the outdoor furniture. We even choose the best wood plank for the seat which is more costly.

Finally we end our day with short discussion on what to bring for our next meeting for preparation on spraying water bottles and how to tie and arrange them accordingly. It was a very tiring day as we need to travel places to places to get all the materials. At the same time we had fun exploring all kind of materials and ideas on doing it.

Beginning of our journey Community Service Initiative

The post is about my journey on doing community service as this module is part of my study plan. In the first few weeks of class our lecturer had prepared 2 places for us to do our charity work which is either at Persatuan Pemulihan Orang-Orang Cacat Selangor and Wilayah Persekutuan (PPOC) or Kompleks Penyayang Bakti. Our lecturer give us some suggestion on how we can contribute to the society and she even show us some pictures of the places through slide show to give us a clear idea how the place looks. After some discussion, we were separated into groups and each of the group will take one of the task. I joined the Kompleks Penyayang Bakti where we will be doing outdoor furniture or idea on decorating the gazebo. I was very excited to join the furniture group as I had done my furniture design workshop on my previous semester.

After group discussion, everyone did research on outdoor furniture and some sketches to prepare for our presentation in class. Below is the picture of our idea on outdoor furniture. The idea was having a simple plank wood with checkers board design sitting on top of brick stone where we can plant some flowers.

Picture 1.1 Our idea of outdoor seating

Our lecturer like the idea but we need to improve it. Eventually the idea of having checker board design on the chair was removed as the place we put our furniture is most likely to be under the hot sun.

Our lecturer also love the idea on putting some plants and flowers inside the recycle plastic bottles. It was one of our member's idea as well. After some feedback from lecturers we did some amendment on our slide show before presented it to the person in-charge at Kompleks Penyayang Bakti.

Final Portfolio - Advance Interior Design Practice 1

DESIGN PROCESS
Phase 1
Phase 1 is a study of site where I learn to explore on the site condition, culture and tradition. Based on the exploration I able to identify the issue of the area and environment. The site is located at Petaling Street where is flooded with tourist during the day for the flee market. The site is very convenient as transportation is easy to access.

Phase 2

In this phase, I research on what programme I am looking into my space. Based on the culture of the site, coffee is one of the most basic culture among local there therefore my CCC was infusing the coffee process into the space. The whole process from plantation to cook coffee beans were include in the programme to allow local and international people to come join the activities at the same time to learn where coffee came originated. Precedent study had been done to include in the programme to come out with the ideal space and design.

Above are the whole ideal of space design and zoning.

After space zoning and model study, overall design had been done into the building provided. All the elements of design and space are based on the precedent study and activities programming.

Phase 3

Finally overall space and design had been done on the final board.
